Northeast Passage Receives U.S. Paralympics Grants for Disabled Veterans Activities

DURHAM, N.H. – U.S. Paralympics, a division of the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC), has made two grants to Northeast Passage at the University of New Hampshire to support the program’s Paralympic activities for disabled veterans and members of the U.S. Armed Forces. Northeast Passage received $150,000 to launch the New England Veterans Paralympic Regional Development Program and $17,000 for its Paralympic Sport Club.

NH hosts military teens for winter adventure camps

Teens who have a parent serving in the military are expanding their social skills and support systems while they ski, sled and skate in northern New Hampshire this winter.

The Military Teen Adventure Camps being held in Bretton Woods are run by the University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension and are paid for by a Department of Defense grant. Although there are other programs for children from military families, season and scope sets the New Hampshire camps apart.

Dartmouth athletes participate in sled hockey event for local veterans

HANOVER, N.H. – Moving away from the friendly and familiar confines of Thompson Arena, several members of the Dartmouth men’s hockey team found themselves looking at the game they love in a whole new light Monday afternoon at Campion Rink in Lebanon.

The members of the Big Green in attendance participated in a sled hockey event set up for local veterans. Thanks in large part to the work of athletic trainer Nicole Humann and her work to organize the event, the nearby rink hosted several veterans and others from the Upper Valley in a game of sled hockey.

Second Sled Classic a huge success

Northeast Passage represented the Boston Bruins at the USA Hockey Sled Classic presented by the NHL and placed second in the tournament.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The second annual USA Hockey Sled Classic presented by the NHL took place last weekend, with over 100 of the top sled hockey players in the country competing on nine sled hockey teams affiliated with NHL clubs. The event was part of Come Play Hockey Month, a joint effort of USA Hockey and the National Hockey League.

The Buffalo Sabres Sled Hockey team captured the tournament title on Sunday (Nov. 20), after defeating the Boston Bruins’ sled team in the championship game at the Virtua Center Flyers Skate Zone in Vorhees, N.J.

Boston Globe: UNH to bring military kids to NH for winter sports

DURHAM, N.H.—Teens from military families around the country will be skiing, dog sledding, ice skating and snow tubing in New Hampshire this winter.

Two organizations affiliated with the University of New Hampshire have received a grant from the U.S. defense department to run a series of free, four-day camps in January and February for teens ages 14-18.

Those are some of the real challenges faced by many of the cyclists who participate in the annual Three Notch Century Challenge to benefit Northeast Passage. The ride spanned three days and was filled with pain, exhaustion, and lots of laughter and incredible highs.
