
Three Notch Century Ride
The
Three Notch Century will challenge cyclists to conquer 100 miles in
one day or three. Both options are appropriate for bicyclists and
handcyclists. The routes are the same…taking participants on
a challenging and scenic ride through the White Mountains of New Hampshire.
Cyclists will begin at Loon Mountain in Lincoln, NH and ride through
Franconia Notch, Crawford Notch and over the Kancamagus Highway.

day Registration (Sunday, Sept. 9, 2007 ONLY): There is a
$100 per person entry fee for this event. Participants are
encouraged to raise additional funds to support Northeast Passage’s
adaptive sports programs. Entry fee includes Three Notch Century t-shirt,
aid stations and post-event meal/party. Registration and online fundraising

3 day Registration & Itinerary: Participants will meet at Loon Mountain on Friday, Sept. 7 and will cover 100 miles over 3 days. Beginning at Loon, day one will cover 35 miles through Franconia Notch and will end at the AMC Highland Center. On day two, the team will descend through Crawford Notch and into North Conway, covering 25 miles and staying at the North Conway Grand Hotel in North Conway. Day three will cover a grueling 38 miles up and over the Kancamagus Pass, just below tree line, then descend and finish back at Loon Mountain. Sections of the route will be on dedicated bike paths and other sections will be on major roads. Van support will be available; however rider level should coincide with mileage and terrain to be covered. The cost for the three day ride is $300 . Participants can fundraise or pay this cost out of pocket. Participants are also encouraged to raise additional funds to support Northeast Passage’s adaptive sports programs. Event Logistics
Training: Northeast Passage will be offering a weekly evening training ride, starting July 19, 2007. Riders will meet at the Northeast Passage office in Durham, NH and build up to riding a 22 mile loop in and around Durham. This is primarily for interested handcyclists, but all riders are encouraged to attend. A different “cycling related” topic will be covered each evening (training tips, bike maintenance, nutrition, etc.) All handcyclists interested in riding in the Three Notch Century (one or three days) MUST attend TWO of the scheduled training rides. Northeast Passage adaptive cycles will be available for use on a “first come, first serve” basis.
Participants who wish to organize training rides in their area, can sign up with Northeast Passage. It will be posted on the NEP Web site as a Three Notch Century training ride. Participants are encouraged to train, prepare and fundraise as a “team”.
Team Captains: Team Captains will recruit friends and family to join the fun! Team Captains are asked to recruit and encourage new riders to participate and fundraise for Northeast Passage.
Bike rentals: Northeast Passage has a limited number of adaptive cycles for participants to use. Participants should notify Northeast Passage ahead of time if they are interested in using an adaptive cycle for the event. Participants should also plan to rent the cycle for training purposes, prior to the event. Cycles are available on a first come, first serve basis.
Route/Support
Day 1: Starting at Loon Mountain, participants will ride through the resort town of Lincoln, NH and take a right onto Route 3 (by Clark’s Trading Post). Riders can take a break at the Flume Visitor’s Center and pick up Recreation Trail at the north end of the parking lot. Along the trail, take a left into the Cannon Mountain Tramway parking lot and stop for lunch. After lunch, riders will hop back on the Recreation Trail. When the trail ends, turn right onto Route 3 North. Take a right in Twin Mountain, NH onto Rt. 302 east. Take a right into the AMC Highland Center.
Day 2: Out of the Highland Center parking lot, take a right onto Rt. 302 east. Riders will cruise downhill and take a break in the town of Bartlett, NH and again at the junction of 302 and 16. Stay on 302 through Intervale and Conway. End the North Conway Grand Hotel in North Conway.
Day 3: Travel on Route 302 east. Continue straight at the junction of 302/16 onto Route 16 south. Take a right onto East Side Drive and bear right after the covered bridge. Take a right onto West Side Road. Take a left onto Passaconway Road. This becomes Dugway Road in Albany. Take a right after bridge into rest area. Take a right onto the Kancamagus Highway, Rt. 112 west. Riders will break at Sabbaday Falls (on the left) before climbing up the Kanc. Riders will regroup at the top of the Kancamagus Highway. Take a left just over the top of the hill, into the rest area. Riders will coast downhill and take a left into the Loon parking lot.

Driving Directions: The starting point for the Three Notch Century is Loon Mountain in Lincoln, NH. Loon is located at 60 Loon Mountain Road, Lincoln, NH.
From Interstate-93 North, take Exit 32, turn left, Loon is located 21/2 miles up Route 112 on the right.
From east or west, Loon is located on Route 112, Kancamagus Highway, and 21/2 miles east of Lincoln.
Post-Event Party! Northeast Passage will be hosting a post-event party at Loon Mountain in Lincoln, NH. Join us for a meal, beverages and entertainment. Participants will receive a free “party pass”. Family and friends are welcome to join the fun for $10/each. Prizes will be awarded during the party.
