The Northeast Passage Wildcats formed in 2007 with
the Maine (Casco Bay Navigators) and Massachusetts (Boston Pit
Bulls) teams coming together to create northern New England’s
only competitive quad rugby team. The team practices weekly at the University of New Hampshire and competes in local, regional and national tournaments. The team hosts an annual tournament at UNH and other events to raise awareness of the sport and support for the team. |
The NEP Wildcats consists of many new and returning players from
around New England. The team is building momentum and is looking to
grow in the coming seasons. They are active year ‘round.
The sport of quad rugby was recently made more popular by the documentary
film "Murderball". The film, about tough, highly competitive
quadriplegic rugby players, showcased the sport and raised awareness
about these elite level athletes.
| Quad rugby (or wheelchair rugby) is
played much like "stand up" rugby, but all players have
a disability that affects both their upper and lower limbs. Men
and women compete on the same team. Physical contact between wheelchairs
is an integral part of the game. New players welcome! Contact Northeast Passage for more information. |
