Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield has been a top provider of health insurance plans and solutions in New Hampshire for over 75 years.  Throughout the decades, Anthem has been committed to improving communities in New Hampshire through active corporate citizenship supporting health related causes and organizations.

Anthem’s current Healthy Generations initiative leverages social mapping technology to target specific health issues affecting communities in each state.  The Healthy Generations initiative focusses on healthy hearts, cancer prevention, healthy maternal practices, diabetes prevention, active lifestyle, behavioral health and programs that benefit people with disabilities.

Northeast Passage was awarded a $25,000 Anthem grant through DSUSA to support competitive sports programming for individuals with disabilities.  The grant funds have already helped the Sled Hockey and Power Soccer programs send teams to their national tournaments in Tampa, Fl and Ft Wayne, IN.  Additionally, the Wheelchair Rugby and Power Soccer programs were able to purchase much needed equipment to more effectively host league tournaments.

“Northeast Passage’s efforts give children and adults of all abilities a chance to strengthen their confidence and independence. As a supporter, we at Anthem are especially excited to be involved with the Power Soccer Tournament this November and see the teams in action on the court,” said Lisa Guertin, president of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in New Hampshire.

Over 10 years ago Anthem partnered with Disabled Sports USA (DSUSA), the nation’s largest disabled sports organization, and has provided over $1,620,000 in grant awards supporting wounded veterans, and individuals with disabilities through DSUSA.  Anthem/DSUSA grants will have served over 5,000 individuals nationwide in 2019.

Northeast Passage is one of many New Hampshire organizations supported by Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield and has received over $75,000 in support from Anthem since 2016.  Anthem’s impact can be seen in communities across New Hampshire supporting a variety of health-related causes and organizations including the Manchester Police Athletic League’s Footrace for the Fallen, a March of Dimes smoking cessation program for pregnant women, the Farnum Center substance use disorder recovery program, the Boys and Girls Club Triple Play program, Blessings in a Backpack and a Greater Seacoast Community Health cancer screening program to name a few.

“Improving the lives of the people in our communities is our mission at Anthem. That’s why we’re proud to be a supporter of Northeast Passage and everything it does to help Granite Staters with disabilities stay active through recreational therapy opportunities and competitive sports programs,” Guertin concluded.
